Practicefirst would like to share information with you from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (DHS), who recently opened their Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center (HC3). The purpose of HC3 is to support and improve the health sector’s cybersecurity defenses and to protect health data and confidential information. The Dept. of Homeland Security is the lead organization to combat these cybersecurity threats.
Per Jeanette Manfra, the Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications at DHS, HC3 is a vital capability for the
early detection and coordination of information between the private sector and the federal government.
HC3 is supported by two prominent cybersecurity information sharing organizations, the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (H-ISAC) and the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST). Per HITRUST, HC3 plays a vital role because of their ability to detect cyber threats on such a broad scale and translate those vulnerabilities into clear countermeasures for healthcare organizations.
